- Biotecnologia dei plastidi
Trasformazione del tabacco mediante ingegneria genetica applicata ai plastidi per accumulare proteine ricombinanti nel cloroplasto. L’esperienza accumulata con i protocolli di trasformazione del tabacco ci ha consentito poi di riuscire a trasformare anche il DNA dei plastidi di barbabietola da zucchero. Inoltre, abbiamo portato avanti studi sulla stabilità proteica delle proteine eterologhe espresse nel cloroplasto.
- Colture vegetali per uso alternativo
Produzione di molecole biofarmaceutiche e bioplastica in pianta: espressione in pianta (tabacco) di enzimi umani, in collaborazione con l’Università di Perugia. Studi di genetica sul luppolo (Humulus lupulus L.).
- Via di secrezione
Investigazione su diversi aspetti legati al traffico delle proteine di secrezione verso il reticolo endoplasmatico (RE) o il vacuolo. Abbiamo dimostrato l’esistenza di una via per il controllo di qualità delle proteine nel RE, che le degrada indirizzandole al vacuolo, così come la presenza di nuovi segnali e vie per il rilascio di proteine al vacuolo (secrezione non-convenzionale di proteine).
