EVOLTREE: EVOLution of TREEs as drivers of terrestrial biodiversity
Project Description
EVOLTREE stands for EVOLution of TREEs as drivers of terrestrial biodiversity. It is a network of excellence that was launched and financially supported by the European Union within the 6th framework programme in April 2006. The network has been extended under the umbrella of the EFI network.
The new consortium is now made up of 23 research groups in 13 European countries.
EVOLTREE Network - Mission
The overall objective of the EVOLTREE Network is to strengthen the implementation of durable integration of research in the field of forest genetics and genomics at the pan-European scale.
To fulfil its mission, the members of the EVOLTREE Network attempt in particular:
- to facilitate and strengthen research in the field of forest genetics and genomics at a pan-European scale,
- to maintain and upgrade the network (resources, infrastructures, training & dissemination) that was created during the EU support,
- to develop and support strategies for durable integration of research in the field of forest genetics and genomics at the pan-European scale,
- to propose scientific and strategic orientations of the EVOLTREE programme.
To this end, research and networking activities are implemented by the EVOLTREE Network facilitated by the European Forest Institute (EFI).
EVOLTREE Objectives
Evoltree’s objective is to maintain and make available to the scientific community those research facilities and resources established by the EVOLTREE Network of Excellence, during a 4-year project supported by the European Commission.
The maintenance of the resources established is possible through the financial and in-kind contribution provided by the members of the EVOLTREE Network.
Scientists are encouraged to use the data accessible through the web portal and the research infrastuctures established in the field.
