Nowadays the Food Safety it’s one of the main concerns for the consumer. Food related issues and illnesses are one of the first causes of death in developed countries. Regarding OMS data exist the most secure food regarding safety standards. Currently the applied methods, although reliable and accurate, require big amount of time, high investment in terms of personnel and instrumentation and costly materials. S3 device equipped with nanowire technology is based on the analysis of the head space. Nanowires are gas sensors based on semiconducting metal oxides and a promising technology thanks to their high sensitivity to a broad range of chemicals, reduces size, weight, and low power consumption. These entire characteristic makes S3 device equipped with nanowire sensors an optimum portable device. It is equipped with six metal oxide semiconductor (MOX) gas sensors, three of them prepared with nanowire technology and the other three with RGTO thin film technology. Two of the three nanowires in the array are ZnO sensors with different operating temperatures and the third one is a SnO2 sensor. The Nanowires, has an extraordinary length-to-width ratio and a singular crystalline quality, resulting in enhanced sensing performances as well as long-term stability for sustained operation. In addition, the three-dimensional network formed by the nanowires increment in a big range the adsorption surface, enhancing the response of the instrument decreasing the threshold diverse from their RGTO counterparts. The aim of this work is to expose two different applications of S3 device in the food security field
