In untreated water are present pathogenic microorganisms dangerous for the human health that are able to produce a different kind of organic chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). These compounds can go to constituite a true "olfactory fingerprint" specific to a particular pathogenic microorganism. Through the use of the novel device S3 it is possible to individualize the pathogenic microorganisms present in untreated water.
