More than 40 species belonging to the genus Pinus are present in Italy, though most of them are non-native species of low interest in forestry. A large amount of information is available in literature for most of the native pine species with trans-european natural range (i.e., Pinus sylvestris). Here we briefly summarize the genetic information available for some of the Mediterranean species of interest for Italian forest silviculture and management (Pinus pinaster Ait., P. pinea L., P. halepensis Mill., P.brutia Ten., P. leucodermis Ant., P. nigra Arn.). Keywords: Quantitative genetics, Pines, Pinus spp.
