RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Genetic, biology and plant biotechnology

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES OF INTEREST

- Chloroplast biotechnology

Genetic engineering of tobacco chloroplast in order to accumulate proteins of agronomic, pharmaceutical and industrial interest. Transformation of sugar beet and unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii chloroplasts. Studies on the stability of recombinant proteins within the chloroplast and. Exploiting of plastids for the synthesis of vegetable biopolymers of protein origin. Study of alternative selection markers for chloroplast trasformation.

- Non-food crops

Production of proteins for industrial and pharmaceutical use in photosynthetic organisms. Search for vegetable molecules to be used as adjuvants for antibiotic therapy and anti-bacterial biofilm action.

- Protein secretion

Analysis of the different aspects of secretory proteins traffic. Study of the mechanisms that regulate the unconventional trafficking of proteins within the plant cell. Mechanisms that control the synthesis, folding and transport of proteins in the plant cell
