Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) Lab

The IBBR’s UOS in Perugia is equipped with a PALM MicroLaser System using the LMPC-Technology (Laser Microdissection and Pressure Catapulting), which combines the cutting function with the unique technique of lifting the isolated sample contact-free into a vessel.

This allows microdissection and lifting of biological material from slides, with no intermediate steps. The selected area (see figure) is separated by cutting a closed line. Then, molecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins, can be extracted from the microdissected material.

PALM MicroLaser System can be used by external researchers or institutions in the framework of a scientific collaboration between them and IBBR.
