IBBR - URT IRCCS-NEUROMED
The Unit foundation
The IBBR research unit at Neuromed Mediterranean Neurological Institute (IRCCS Neuromed) was established to consolidate the CNR bio-agro-food hub in the Molise Region. The main goal of the URT is to investigate the in vitro and in vivo association between health and nutrition analyzing the effects on human neurodegenerative, metabolic and particulary hepatic and cardiovascular diseases.
The collaboration between IBBR and IRCCS Neuromed will benefit from well-consolidated competences and represents an opportunity for the development of new knowledge with special focus in the analysis of healthy effects of natural bioactive molecule.
Research activities
Current research activities at IRCCS Neuromed Division may be summarized as follows:- identification of new natural molecules with biological activity that can be used as nutraceuticals or as adjuvants - in combination with traditional drugs - for the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and tumors;
- analysis of the neuroprotective effects of curcumin (Curcumin-C3complex® / Bioperine®) and Ginkgo biloba extracts (EGb 761) using in vitro and in vivo models of human neurodegenerative diseases;
- identification of molecules with "health-promoting" and antioxidant activities derived from extra virgin olive oil;
- identification of serum microRNAs differentially expressed in a cohort of epathic steatosis that can be used as prognostic and/or diagnostic markers.
